Voice of Truth Seeks Wisdom in Writing to Make a Difference
72What Difference Does a Writer Make Anyway?
Every writer faces this question at some point during their career. What impact does my writing have? What difference does it make anyway?
When faced with life’s hard questions, a writer sprints cautiously.
Having a passion to write and engage with the reader is a writer’s vision but is it making any difference?
A writer uses words to tell a story. Creating pictures in the mind of the reader, the writer expresses his thoughts and beliefs. With each message the writer develops a voice of his own that speaks to the heart of the reader.
During a season of growth, the writer develops additional interests and the writing just seems to flow naturally. Then one day everything comes to an abrupt halt. Writer’s block sets in, this common theme when a writer hits a dead end or a brick wall.
They begin to question their writing. They look for inspiration but cannot find any. They hit the darkness, seeping in like a crust covered hole. The writer is faced with his private mirror. The voice of truth is seeking wisdom, it is their moment of truth. Looking within his own mind, he contemplates the decision of continuing to write again.
What does a man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun? Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever. – Ecclesiastes 1:3-4 (NIV)
When things are going well, everyone spreads the accolades. Giving positive feedback and encouraging words of advice, but when the road block hits, that is a whole new world.
Left feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, the writer is left speechless. Facing the giants of his life the writer wonders, was it really going to last forever? The writer was proud of his work. He held a positive message, received affirmations and felt he accomplished his goal.
My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward of all my labor. – Ecclesiastes 2:10 (NIV)
During a season of indifference, the writer questions his ability, his thoughts, his motives, and his direction. Is it all meaningless? Has the work I have done up to this point only a self-gratifying desire of something to boast over? Has it really made any difference at all?
Seeking wisdom from scripture, the book of Ecclesiastes is a book of the Bible that discusses the futility of life in pursuing material things. The Greek term for Ecclesiastes means an assembly of people – people who would be listening to the words of the Teacher. The relevance is to point to God as the only true source of real meaning.

A common question asked by many writers, will I make any difference at all?
If I continue to work hard, in the end, will it benefit anyone? A ripple effect of doubt and fear creeps in and the writer is left to face his decisions.
Lack of fulfillment sets in and the dust is stirred up. Is this what I really want?
Serious thought must be given when faced with this internal struggle. If writing is a passion and a gift then it must be shared. Affirmations and accolades are wonderful things to have, but personal contentment is independent.
Finding gratification in writing is a desire to express the words of thought. Each writer must determine what that means personally.
No one is searching on the internet these days about a writer making a difference.
Is it because people don’t care about that? If a writer is an accomplished author, they make a difference with their readers, but if a writer is unknown, what difference does it make anyway?
People have enough problems of their own, they only want solutions. They read for answers and they read to get details about what will benefit them. If a writer is writing about topics they are not interested in, they just choose not to read it.
Some of the most sought after topics are related to the media. Portrayed characters and the lives of celebrities draw more interest than what is happening in the writer’s little world.
People have little or no interest in other things but self-seeking desires. When it comes to the world at large, until a tragedy strikes, people are absorbed within their own private worlds. There is a ton of information online on how to be a good writer, with creative writing courses and resources available but less than 40 global searches per month on writing positive affirmations. Why is that? Where is the love?
Is there peace in troubled times?
Writing with impact
A writer is left with a decision. How can I make a difference with my words? Who will listen?
Does it really matter after all? Upon reflection, the writer can then determine whether they are serving themselves or others. Is writing a career desire or is it a means to an end?
Did it touch someone’s heart? Did it cause someone to reflect on their life? A writer who can do this is essentially making a difference with each thought and reflection.
Considering all the online writers these days and the world of bloggers and tweets, life is becoming a massive intake of words.
If you consider yourself a writer then muse whether your writing sends a positive message or attracts the addition of negative impact.
The world needs a larger audience of positive journalism for the wisdom seekers. Those writers who are willing to make a difference in this world and leave a lasting legacy to the next generation because they go against the grain for they will have the biggest impact.
What difference did it make anyway when the words spread across the pages for a reader’s benefit and nothing came out of it?
Dearest FaithDream,
Your beautiful Hub made my heart feel so sad . . . Yes, every single word you write in love and share with the world makes a difference . . . Yes, there are people everywhere searching the Internet for others who are making a positive difference with their written words . . . Yes, there is a whole movement of thousands of women trying to raise the consciousness of the world by sharing their thoughts and feelings online . . .
You do make a difference . . . Keep writing . . . Keep sharing . . . It counts more than you know . . .
Blessings always, EarthAngel . . .
Faith,
This really makes me think. Feedback and comments are so critical to allow us to feel that we truly are making a difference. I know that is what makes me keep going through times of uncertainty with my writing . . .
It is so sad that bad news has always attracted more attention, and yet research has shown that there is more good in the world than bad, more good deeds committed in everyday life than bad ones. Imagine if someone were to print a local magazine or newspaper with only good deeds done, would anyone read it I wonder. Lovely hub, every time I read one of yours It gets my brain motivated.
FaithDream yes there must be many times when we all go through this thought about our writings.
Will what I write have an impact on those who read it?
Well when I write I pray about it first, then just write and post it, then it is up to the reader as to how they read it, sometimes I get back very good comments, sometimes I get nothig back, but I never mind as I know that many have read it.
As Christine says bad news gets so much attention,,
But God loves all
I enjoyed your hub and was able to identify with all of it.
I am grateful to have found a platform to present the revelations of His truth and find great joy in the thought of anyone benefitting from them.
Blessed for having stopped by
Thanks
Earth Angle gave you a great response and I agree with everything she said...I guess if we have an impact on just one person that should be gratifying enough...sometimes we have more of an impact on ourselves through the process of expressing our thoughts and organizing them too
You have reflected the thoughts and feelings of every writer at one time or another. I love the way you incorporated Bible verses within your writing and the wisdom behind it. You give great advice.
When I first began to write years ago, I often asked myself why I write what I write. Is it making a difference in someone's life? Is it teaching others about God? Am I doing God's will? Surely I'm not doing it for the money. Whenever I face doubt, I always seek the council of God and I always get the same answer... "Keep writing and don't worry if you don't hear from others." I know thousands of people read what I write and although not everyone comments and some may not agree, I know in my heart that God is reaching out to many in what I write. It may take some people a little time to understand, but I leave them to God to deal with. I am only His obedient servant.
Thanks for the hub, I enjoyed it.
As long as writing brings out the best in you, continue doing it!
Be inspired and be an inspiration to others.
Cheers for great hubs! :)

My reason for writing is to write something that can truly create an emotion within someone. If my words can leave someone feeling how I felt, I am satisfied.
I want to get published and make $ someday, but I know how unlikely it is.
I understand what you mean in this hub, it gets tough sometimes.
Thanks for taking the time to write this :]
