A Writer's Goal in Writing Well

Take the place of the writer, become the best you can be, set your goals high and your expectations higher.

I like this thought, “when writing, don’t try to impress anyone, instead your goal should be, to satisfy yourself.”

Amazing things happen when we leave it all up to chance. Give yourself the credit to wire in your words and express yourself completely.

Showing who you are now, this is writing in action.

Freedom is surrendering the attitudes of the reader, holding the words in your hands and pouring out your heart.

Practice each day with a sentence, a paragraph, or try a poem, and play with the words. Satisfying your soul with the words that come out to just free-write. Moving the pictures in a writer’s eye by carefully placing the words in a row develops a writer’s nature.

Glancing at the words you drop, lifting your spirits, and raising your expectations, gives you the credibility. A writer is only as good as you think you are.

Spoken truth from your soul with positive images springing forth to announce you have arrived. Give the world something to talk about. At last you have made a difference.

Fear blocks the writer by apprehension in doing the task. Created in the mind of the writer, a story is about to burst. Don’t hold back. Let the words ring out, expressing the thought.

A reader wants to know that whatever they read will enlighten them in some way. Captured in the heart of every reader is their own story. Stories are present because all of us want to feel better. Living in a time when crisis and fear stalk the corners of our souls, we are reaching out to grab on to something, to save us. A story can capture that presence. In saving us, we escape to another place and time.

Writers have an obligation. A crafted writer knows this. Encouragement from a reader empowers the writer to move forward. Writing from the heart, images are transfixed in their mind, a writer still seeks acknowledgement.

As a writer, we all need that kind of boost. Passiveness is not acceptable. With that said, writers cannot count on it and should not put their worth around it. A kind word is wonderful, affirmation is great, but it should not be expected. One of the writer’s goals should be to satisfy themselves, if not anything else.

If you consider yourself to be a writer, you might be thinking, I need more than that. I need to know I’m making a difference, I want reassurance. Cheers are good; praise is delightful, it inspires the writer to keep going. This is all true but as a writer knows it may not come, and discouragement can quickly set in.

Most writers will go through a dry season where the readers are few and far between. It is to be expected. Perfection is not possible in any situation. We are flawed human beings. We make mistakes and that is why we have erasers, why we have the escape key.

To be a noble writer you should be following some key exercises.

1. Look for inspiration – Writers build stories in their minds all the time, and there is a lot of inspiration out there.

2. Practice, practice, practice – the more you write, the better you become.

3. Have faith in yourself – Raise your spirits daily.

4. Be content in everything – Take delight in the work you mastered.

5. Don’t give up – During the dry seasons, spend more time reading.

“So you want to be a writer?” I can hear my father’s voice. His questioning this fact didn’t discourage me because he believed in me. I learned a lot from my parents.

They were not perfect but they taught me about faith, about believing in your dreams, and with God anything is possible.

If he had said to me, “you’ll never be a writer, you’re not good enough,” I would have been hurt, maybe even discouraged. But he didn’t say that.

Nonetheless in a writer’s world there are those people you love and trust, who do say those things. The naysayers in your life, those people you deeply respect that do not believe in your writing ability. They may discourage you, they may ridicule your writing and even make fun of this idea you have “you want to be a writer.”

Don’t let them discourage you. If you have the dream in your heart, it is there for a purpose. God places dreams in our hearts for many reasons. Sometimes it is given to us as this special purpose, don’t take it lightly. If you have the gift of words, you have God’s blessing. If you need help with sentence structure, take a class. If you want to follow your dreams, build upon them.

A dream in your heart is a dream to be fulfilled. Faith in dreams is why I love to write. Never settle. When you look into that mirror, see the person you most admire. God doesn’t make mistakes. Remember God never gives us something we cannot handle.

A writer’s heart is pure in understanding. Wisdom is gained by knowing that head knowledge is never enough. A revelation is attained when the praise you are seeking comes from God, when the encouragement to keep writing is divine. Seek truth first and your spirit will be satisfied.

Writing is a gift. It is the writer’s responsibility to use that gift the way it was intended. Let it be your goal.
